How the days go
Rowan keeps books for a handful of small clients, from home. The work is receipts, a monthly package of statements, and the email that goes with them.
Where the time goes
In this example, the slow part is the same email written again, and the note asking a client for a missing receipt. That is the setup for the sample, not a count of hours.
Which tools fit
One chat assistant for a first draft of those emails. Rowan rewrites anything that mentions a client's numbers. The spreadsheet already in use stays. The sample starts on Claude Free and moves to Claude Pro only if the free limits get in the way.

What to subscribe to, and what to skip

- Skip: a second paid chat app.
- Skip: a paid image tool, and a year paid up front.
A second paid assistant on top of Claude Pro is about C$25 a month more, as of Oct 2026, before tax. Two assistants would cost about C$54 a month for the same drafts.
A plain first month
- Week 1. Write down the three emails that repeat.
- Week 2. Save one prompt. Use it on three drafts. Rowan edits each one.
- Week 3. Keep client names and amounts out of the tool. Write "the client" instead.
- Week 4. If the assistant was not opened that week, cancel it.
A sample email shape
The mock is a short note: what the package includes, what is still missing, and how to send it. The client's name and the dollar amounts are left blank.
A later build
