ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini in Canadian Dollars (2026), With HST
Prices checked 20 Oct 2026 on each vendor's own pricing page. Prices exclude HST. Figures are as of Oct 2026.
Updated 20 Oct 2026.
People ask for the ChatGPT Plus price in Canada, the Claude Pro price in Canadian dollars, and the Gemini price on a Canadian page. This page uses the numbers I could read on 20 Oct 2026, and leaves a blank where the vendor’s page did not show a dollar amount.
Pick one assistant. Writing and long files lean to Claude. Images, voice, and a broad everyday chat are why people look at ChatGPT, and I cannot quote its price until its own page shows one. If your files already live in Gmail, Docs, and Drive, price Gemini first, because Google publishes Canadian dollars. A personal toolkit fits this question. A business report fits when staff and client files are involved. Samples are at the bottom.
Price table
Ontario HST in the last column is 13% of the price, from the Canada Revenue Agency’s place-of-supply examples. It is an illustration. A vendor may or may not add tax at checkout, and the rate depends on the place of supply. Nova Scotia’s HST is 14% on that same CRA page. This is not tax advice. Prices exclude tax unless the vendor says otherwise.
US-dollar estimates use the Bank of Canada daily rate of 1.4097 Canadian dollars per US dollar on 19 Oct 2026, the latest figure published when I checked on 20 Oct 2026. The Bank calls the rate indicative. Your card may add a foreign exchange fee on top. App-store prices are not in this table. I did not re-check Apple or Google Play.
| Plan | What the vendor page showed | CAD estimate before tax | If Ontario HST (13%) is added |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business | Plans are listed. Dollar amounts were not on chatgpt.com/pricing. See the vendor site. | — | — |
| Claude Pro, monthly | $20 a month. Not marked CAD. Tax extra. | About C$28.19 if those dollars are US dollars | About C$31.85 on that estimate |
| Claude Pro, annual | $17 a month, $200 billed up front | About C$23.96 a month, or about C$281.94 up front, if US dollars | About C$27.08 a month on that estimate |
| Claude Max | From $100 a month | About C$140.97 if US dollars | About C$159.30 on that estimate |
| Google AI Plus | C$6.99 a month, 400 GB | C$6.99 | About C$7.90 |
| Google AI Pro | C$26.99 a month, 5 TB | C$26.99 | About C$30.50 |
| Google AI Ultra 5x | C$139.99 a month, storage from 20 TB | C$139.99 | About C$158.19 |
| Google AI Ultra 20x | C$279.99 a month | C$279.99 | About C$316.39 |
Claude’s Enterprise line is explicitly US$20 per seat a month, billed annually, plus usage at API rates. I am using that as the reason the unlabelled Claude dollars are likely US dollars, and I am still telling you to read the currency at checkout. The estimates are not your statement.
Free tiers, before you pay
ChatGPT Free, as the pricing page describes it: unlimited everyday text chats with GPT-6, subject to abuse guardrails, plus limited uploads, images, voice, deep research, memory, Codex, and ChatGPT Work on desktop.
Claude Free includes chat, file creation, and Claude Slides. Projects are capped (the comparison table says up to 5). Model training is opt-out. A free Google account includes 15 GB, which Google counts inside a paid Google AI plan’s storage. Use a free plan for two weeks on real emails and files. If you do not open it, do not pay.
Entry plans
Google AI Plus is the entry price I can verify in Canadian dollars: C$6.99 a month, 400 GB, family sharing with up to five others. Some perks are limited by country. I am not promising a perk the Canadian page marks as US-only.
ChatGPT Go is the entry paid plan. It offers more messages, uploads, images, and voice than Free, and the page says it may include ads. There was no dollar amount. See chatgpt.com/pricing. If your files are in Google and the budget is tight, Plus is the plan I can actually price. For long documents, try Claude Free first.
Standard plans, the band most owners land in
This is the band around C$25 to C$30 a month before tax, for one person.
Google AI Pro is C$26.99 a month. It includes 5 TB, Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, expanded image and video tools, and Gemini Notebook with more room than the free notebook plan. With the Ontario illustration, about C$30.50. The Canadian page lists Gemini 4 Argon on Pro and Ultra. Video generation on the comparison table is Omni Flash on every paid tier.
Claude Pro is the $20 / $17 plan above. Pro adds Claude Code, projects, research, and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365, and it shares one usage pool across chat and code. If you write and edit long files all day, this is the paid plan I would trial first. If checkout is in US dollars, budget the estimate, the card fee, and possible tax, not the US sticker alone.
ChatGPT Plus is the standard individual plan in OpenAI’s lineup: advanced models, projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, expanded Codex, and ChatGPT Work on desktop, web, and mobile. Sites are included on Plus. The feature table I read showed ChatGPT Space and Dot as not included on Plus. Pro is the card that lists Dot. I still do not have a Plus price from the vendor page. Until that page shows one, “see the vendor site” is the honest line.
Paying for two of these at once is the mistake. They overlap. Finish a month on one.
Heavy plans
Buy these when a standard plan actually runs out, not because the name sounds serious.
Google AI Ultra starts at C$139.99 a month (5x) and C$279.99 (20x), with storage starting at 20 TB on the 5x plan. Read which bundles are available in Canada. Claude Max starts at $100 a month, described as 5x or 20x Pro usage. I am not quoting a separate 20x subscription price, because the page said “from $100.” ChatGPT Pro offers 3 usage tiers and Dot. No dollar amount was on the page.
Agents in each plan
ChatGPT Work is included on Plus and up. Free and Go get a limited version, and only on desktop. OpenAI’s help page says ChatGPT agent is no longer available, and to use ChatGPT Work. Claude Cowork is on paid plans only. Since 6 Oct 2026, Pro and Max sessions run in Anthropic’s cloud. Gemini Agent Mode and Tasks are Ultra-first, and only in select countries. I cannot confirm Canada. The longer notes are in AI agents for small business.
Team plans and client data
Consumer plans are the wrong drawer for client files.
Claude’s page says training is opt-out on Free, Pro, and Max, and none by default on Team. Team standard is $25 per seat a month, or $20 per seat a month billed annually. Team premium is $125 a month, or $100 billed annually, per seat. Seats run from 2 to 150 on the Team description. Those dollar figures are not marked CAD. If they are US dollars, $25 is about C$35.24 before tax and before a card fee.
ChatGPT says Go, Free, and Plus are for individuals, and Business and Enterprise are for businesses. Business starts at 2 users, with monthly and annual billing. Enterprise is sales-assisted. I do not have verified Business dollar amounts. I also could not confirm from the pricing page alone whether Business opts out of training. Check the current privacy setting in the product before you paste a client file. Do not assume.
Google’s consumer AI plans are not a company admin console. Gemini Notebook’s page says organisation data is not used for training, and that an individual’s data is not used unless they share feedback. The standard notebook allows up to 50 sources. Plus doubles limits and allows up to 100 sources. There is no separate notebook price. Never upload a customer list or financial records to a free tier.
US billing, card fees, and app stores
Google’s AI plans above are in Canadian dollars. Claude’s consumer prices are unlabelled. ChatGPT’s web page showed no prices, so I cannot tell you the billing currency.
If a charge is in US dollars, the Bank of Canada figure is an estimate, not a quote from your bank. A foreign transaction fee, if your card has one, sits on top. I did not verify App Store or Google Play prices on 20 Oct 2026, so none are printed. Stay on monthly billing until a tool has survived a month of real use.
Keep one
The overlap is the expensive part. Claude Pro, Google AI Pro, and a ChatGPT paid plan all aim at the same Tuesday: draft the email, summarise the file, make a first image. Owning all three does not triple the Tuesday.
Keep the one that matches the work:
- Most of your hours are in Google docs and mail: Google AI Pro at C$26.99, or Plus at C$6.99 if the lighter limits are enough.
- Most of your hours are long writing and big files: trial Claude Pro.
- You want images, voice, and a general chat, and you can read a live price: open ChatGPT’s pricing page and pay for one tier, not three.
- You already pay for Microsoft 365 and your files are in Word, Excel, and Outlook: read Copilot and Microsoft 365 before you add any of the above.
Rotate monthly if you are still unsure. Cancel the one you did not open. A year paid up front can wait.
Trades, realtors, and salons each have a shorter list of the tools around the assistant: trades, realtors, salons.
What the paid PDF adds
This page is the public price picture. It is not your picture. The paid PDF names one plan for the tasks you actually do, the files you have, and the budget you wrote down. It includes the prompt pack and the setup steps. Those stay in the PDF.
